Ladies' Code

Before the tragedy, Ladies Code was one of the promising girl's group in Korea.  Ladies' Code (Korean: 레이디스 코드) is a South Korean girl group formed by Polaris Entertainment in 2013. Consisting of leader Ashley and members Rise, Sojung, Zuny, and EunB, they made their debut with the mini-album Code#01 and the lead track "Bad Girl", which was released on March 7, 2013. On September 3, 2014, member EunB died in a car accident which also left Sojung and Rise in critical condition. Four days after the accident, Rise succumbed to her injuries and died.

Those people who are not familiar with the Ladies Code, here are some recap on how the girls started.


Pre-debut

Before the establishment of the group, most of the members were already in the entertainment industry. The group has since gained massive popularity.

RiSe participated in Miss Korea 2009 as a representative of Japan (Kwon Rie, her sister participated in Miss Korea 2007) and won the Korean Abroad Award. She gained popularity by starring in the talent show called Birth of a Great Star, and finished in the Top 12, along with David Oh.She then appeared again with David Oh as a couple on the couple-making show called We Got Married, Season 3 (Ep 11-24). She was formerly signed to KeyEast.  






Sojung was a finalist and finished Top 8 on the talent show called The Voice of Korea.







EunB is the sister-in-law of SBS 8 News anchor, Kim Sung Joon.






Ashley, prior to her debut, was an internet sensation who uploaded dance covers of famous K-pop songs to YouTube under the channel name ashleych0i 



2013: Debut, " Hate You", and "Pretty Pretty

On February 20, 2013, Sojung confirmed that she would join a new girl group being formed by Polaris Entertainment, and that they would debut in March 2013. Promotion began on February 25, 2013, with the release of Rise's teaser video, followed by Sojung's on the 26th, EunB's on the 27th, for Zuny's on the 28th, and March 1 for leader Ashley respectively.On March 4, 2013, they released the group teaser for their music video.

The group's debut mini-album Code#01 along with the song "Bad Girl" and accompanying music video was released on March 7, 2013.Just the day after their debut, their song charted high on real-time charts, peaking at #8, #9, and #10 on Soribada, Daum, and Naver real-time charts, and eventually peaking at #34 on the Gaon singles chart. They had their first live performance on M! Countdown on March 7, the day of their debut.

Their first digital single "Hate You" was released on August 6, 2013, serving as a pre-release for their upcoming mini-album.The song debuted high on real-time charts, peaking at #3, #8, and #11 on Bugs, Mnet, and Cyworld real-time charts.


On August 21, 2013, Ladies' Code announced their comeback for their second mini-album, Code#02 Pretty Pretty, which was released on September 6, 2013.


2014–present: So Wonderful, Kiss Kiss

On February 6, 2014, the music teaser for "So Wonderful" was released on YouTube through Loen Music's official YouTube account. The song was produced by Super Changddai who worked with the group since their debut.On February 12, 2014, the official music video for the song was released and the group performed the new song for the first time on M! Countdown on February 13.The single was released on February 13, 2014.

On July 30, 2014, Ladies' Code revealed a teaser image of their new single, "Kiss Kiss" and released a video teaser on July 31.On August 6, 2014, the music video for "Kiss Kiss" was released on Loen Music's official YouTube channel and the single was released on August 7, 2014.

2014–present: Tragedy strikes and EunB and Rise's deaths

On September 3, 2014, at around 01:20 KST, in South Korea, the group, along with their manager and a stylist, was travelling in a van that crashed into a protective wall in the vicinity of the Singal junction on the Yeongdong Expressway in the direction of Incheon.

As a result of the accident, EunB died while the remaining six passengers were injured and rushed to the hospital.Two of the members, Sojung and Rise, were taken to the Catholic University of Korea St. Vincent's Hospital in Suwon, listed under critical condition. Sojung's condition has since been reported as stabilized,however Rise died in Ajou University Hospital four days after the incident on September 7, after being in a coma since the accident and undergoing numerous surgeries.

The cause of the accident is currently under investigation with reports saying that the vehicle had lost a rear wheel.The group's label, Polaris Entertainment stated in an official statement that the group were returning to Seoul from a schedule in Daegu and, at around Suwon, the back tire of the van falling out and rainy conditions caused the van to skid and crash into the protective wall.

In the wake of member EunB's death, the song "I'm Fine Thank You" from the group's second EP Pretty Pretty topped on several real-time music charts including Melon, Bugs, Genie, Monkey3, and Olleh after fans of the group posted messages on online communities and SNS encouraging people to listen to the song as a tribute and to fulfill the late singer's dream of ranking first on the music charts.
